Thotcrime began as an aside between two internet friends. Collaborating via Discord and adding new members along the way the group wholeheartedly embraced the idea of "cybergrind," both sonically and in spirit. The underground success of their 2020 debut "Onyourcomputer" led them to sign with Prosthetic Records, who released their followup "D1G1T4L_DR1FT" in 2022. While on their first tour in 2023 in Richmond, Virginia, their laptop had a hiccup and refused to work. What could have, and has, stopped many bands from performing, they took as a challenge to themselves to go full grindcore and perform with nothing but their wits, a cranked amp, and some loud drums.
